How I get a computer game that was made in 1997 to play in a computer that is running on XP?

I am trying to get the computer game Carmageddon to play in a windows xp computer but it keeps bringing up the message

I hate to be the messenger of bad news but it wont work because XP is a Microsoft windows product.
