What is the best place to make your own computer game?

I'm looking for a good place to make my own computer game that's not short, and I'm not exactly looking to make a shooting game either.

What do you think making a game entails? There are programs like Game Maker that guide you along in these simple games but those games aren't too terribly exciting. Then there's things like the Unreal Development Kit that let you use the same tools the professionals use to write their games. But you actually have to write code for that- there's no dragging and dropping pictures or clicking menus. That's the only way to make the really good games. And it's not something you can teach yourself to do in a weekend.What is the best place to make your own computer game?
