use a moblie hard drive,
Horribly bad answer. Using a "mobile" hard drive still involves installing on a hard drive. Games will have to make registry entries on your internal drive as well.

You can play plenty of games without buying them or installing anything at http://www.candystand.com
well, I hear that there's a program out there that allows you to play your flash drive as though it were a hard drive, and you can install games onto there as if it were a hard drive. Can't recollect the name.
You can get a bootable linux CD with games on it. You essentially boot the entire OS into system RAM and never touch the hard drive. Many of them will come with a decent selection of simple games. There is even a project from gentoo.org that had UT2004 Demo on it.
