Is there an easy way to capture computer game footage?

While playing any one of my favorite computer games (OS: WinXP Pro), I'd like to capture a few minutes of mpeg footage for replay later. If such a feature is not built into the game, is there an easy way to do this? Is there a sequence of keys that will start capturing whatever is on the screen?

you can take screen shots just by hitting the PrtSc button but i dont know a way to take video footage.
