Also, should he be doing anything extra-curricular?What high school classes should a kid take to get accepted into college for computer game design?
The best course of action in high school is always to take the most challenging classes you can that your school offers. It's very important to have a base of core classes. Encourage him to take electives that he's interested in and relate to computer science and/or graphic design.
Also, extracurriculars are very important. Your son should try to develop well-rounded interests. Volunteer work is very important. As far as computer game designing goes, try to get him into some kind of computer club at his school or in your community. This will expose him to what he'll be studying in college.
There aren't too many relevant classes in High School.
I'd suggest Pre eng, Art, basic comp classes
Pre eng gives you a taste of design software.
It helps to be able to present your ideas graphically as a designer, so having some drawing background is good.
And of course working with a computer, though if he's familiar enough now it's not a problem.
In College though, look into programming (it helps to have a background), graphic design, more art, etc. What high school classes should a kid take to get accepted into college for computer game design?
TV productions
Graphic Design
Anything having to do with editing, photoshop, computers, graphics engines.
Not much extra curricular to do for it.
If he wants, he can do some research like he should be doing and try to make a homemade video game.
Look at Full Sail schools. They are some of the best for that field.
Math, physics, computer science, and art classes would help the most. And learning how to program on his own would help as well. What high school classes should a kid take to get accepted into college for computer game design?
math computer science any computer classes offered at the school and of course art doesn't hurt :)
