How much does it cost to develop your own computer game?

i need to find out the cost of designing a computer game. i would like to know if i have an idea and were to ask a company to design a game for me so that it can be sold how much would it cost. this doesnt havent to be exact it can be an estimate. thanksHow much does it cost to develop your own computer game?
Never going to happen. Developer studios don't buy ideas. Ideas are worthless, unless they come from established fandoms (movie or book spinoffs, or established game series) and since you don't have the rights to such a thing, your idea is not going to be worth selling. They also aren't going to take money from you to develop your idea. Trust me, they have years and years worth of ideas in-house that they're sure to consider better than your idea simply because they're THEIR ideas. And besides by them working on their ideas, they can keep the profits.

You might want to consider hiring a development team. Programmers, musicians, graphic designers, etc. If your idea is good enough, you can get funding from a venture capitalist... but I doubt it'd happen. Like I've said before, ideas are worthless. Implementation is what's worth money.
What kind of game are we talking about?

Retail game titles from big producers have production budgets in the tens of millions of dollars.
A smaller, low budget game from an indie developer can be made for a fraction of that, and it's reflected in the quality.

Because if you did then you could do it all yourself and only have to pay for the cost of the software (not very much).

You can make a pretty basic comp game using game maker ( just google it ) and it's free but if u want better types of games then u might need to invest a bit.
It depends, the person who made Counter-Strike made it for free, yet some big games can cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
