I would like to create an educational computer game for kids and then market the game and have the proceeds go to a non-profit organization. How would I go about creating a computer game for kids?
I would recommend researching other educational games through online searches and whatnot, and contacting the publishers of these games with this question.
This is a very broad question... but generally, computer games are a lot like books and movies. You have the publisher, which is the company that dishes out the money to get the ball rolling, and expects a large chunk of the profits. You have the writer, who comes up with the ideas and formulates them into a story/storyline, then you have the screenwriter, who adapts the story to what can actually work in a computer game, then you have the graphics artists/designers, and programmers to make the game do what you want it to.
Those are the basics, and depending on the scale of game, there could definitely be a lot more categories and people involved in its creation.
It also depends on what you want to educate kids about in your game. There are some publishers that are solely dedicated to publishing games in specific topics and areas. That may aid you in your research as well.
